Italy Sightseeing: Sardinia
|
The Italian island of sardinia, twelve kilometers to the south
of Corsica, seems to be a country in its own rights with its own
language, culture and customs. You will find many age-old traditions
upheld here, especially in the Gennargentu mountains. Sardinia has
exceptionally beautiful unspoiled nature. The countryside is mainly
hilly and in some places mountainous. There is even a part which
has been declared a nature reserve by Unesco.

Sardinia's beautiful landscape
The landscape land inwards is determined by woods, chalk stone, old volcanoes,
caves, springs, waterfalls and abysses. The coastline of 1800 kilometers
is marked by the large inlets, bays, shell and pebble beaches and of course
the crystal clear blue sea.
Sardinia is also an island of contradictions. Besides the folklore like
lifestyle and unspoiled nature, there are also genuine jet-set resorts
on the Costa Smeralda in the North.
Sardinia archeology
The island also is home to number of archeological treasures, such as
the "nuraghi", prehistoric towers of defense spread throughout.
There are also a number of Roman remains such as the Roman amphitheater
at Cagliari.
